Summer Of Olive Oil: Meet Accademia Oleria’s Gran Riserva - Fruttato Verde

There’s olive oil…and then there’s Gran Riserva.

A rare gem from the sun-soaked island of Sardegna (~ 120 miles west of mainland Italy in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea), this isn’t your everyday drizzle. It’s a thoughtfully produced, single-estate EVOO made with native Bosana olives and harvested at the peak of ripeness.

Pressed within hours of picking and cold-extracted to preserve every nuance of flavor, the Gran Riserva is the result of four generations of dedication to the craft.

A Taste of Sardegna

Sardinia (or Sardegna), the second largest island in the Mediterranean is a world of its own. Fiercely proud of its traditions, this Italian island is home to some of the most distinctive Extra Virgin Olive Oils in the world.

The secret? Terroir.

Here, ancient olive groves cling to the rocky limestone hillsides, kissed by the salty sea breezes and year-round sunshine. The island’s unique microclimate create ideal conditions for growing Bosana, Sardinia’s signature olive varietal.

Every step of production at Accademia Oleria is shaped by the rhythm of the island - hands in the soil, olives picked at dawn, oil pressed by evening.

Our very own Molly Broder has the pleasure of visiting Sardinia and Accademia Oleria back in 2024, furthering our love affair with the Sardinian table.

What does it taste like?

Boldly aromatic and elegant. You’ll notice notes of green tomato, apple and fresh herbs. Clean on the palate with a spicy, black pepper finish. The kind of olive oil that doesn’t just accompany a dish, it transforms it.

How to enjoy it?

  • Drizzle generously over grilled vegetables, fresh mozzarella, or sliced tomatoes

  • Finish seafood pastas or risottos for added depth

  • Swirl on top soups or beans just before serving

  • Or keep it simple: crust bread, good sea salt and a pour of Gran Riserva.

Why we love it:

We’ve always believed olive oil tells a story, just like any good wine. Just like Alpana Singh says “I think of wine as a liquid snapshot of time. It was that moment, everything that was happening for that year, what the summer was like, what the rains were like, and it just captures it and puts it in a bottle.” Gran Riserva tells a story of the sun, the rain, and the soil of Sardegna. It’s a bottle that speaks of tradition, land, and the quiet luxury of good food done simply.
